Who makes it

The Snow Day Calculator is edited by Petar M. It is a small independent project, not a company, a school district or a TV station.

Public data only. National Weather Service forecasts, NOAA climate normals and NCES school district data. Sources are named on every page.
An estimate, not an announcement. We never report official closings. Your district makes the call.
No made-up accuracy. We publish accuracy only from outcomes parents report, once there are enough of them. See accuracy.
The method is public. Every factor and threshold is explained on how it works.

Numbers come from data, not typing. Snowfall normals, district lists, ZIP codes and every chance on the site are computed from the public source files named on each page, and rebuilt when those sources update.
AI-assisted writing. We use AI writing tools to help draft and edit pages, including the guides.
Facts checked at the source. Statements about outside rules (for example, National Weather Service alert names) are checked against the issuing agency's own pages or data, with the date checked recorded, and re-checked every season.
Our model is labeled as ours. Thresholds such as "snow that usually closes schools" are the calculator's estimates, and pages say so. We don't quote district policies we haven't read.
Corrections. Spot something wrong? Email us (below) and we'll fix it.

The calculator is free. It may show a small number of clearly labeled ads, never inside the result. We don't sell data and don't require an account.
